About the ICYAA

Thank you for taking a moment to learn more about the ICYAA.

The ICYAA was founded over 33 years ago by a group of local
volunteers to offer youth athletics for children in northern Iredell
County. Though some opportunities were provided by local
recreation departments, some sports were not offered by anyone.

They wanted to use this opportunity to introduce children to the
fundamentals of each sport with the hope that in the future it
would improve the athletics programs at North Iredell High
School.

With the change to the middle school system in the Iredell
County, it became even more important to provide athletic
opportunities for children when there wasn’t a program offered
by the school system. One can only believe that the founders
understood how important it was to have the children stay active
in athletics as long as possible.

The organization is 100% volunteer. The organization currently
has 6 conference schools, 5 of which were original members.
The ICYAA is governed by an executive board and a group of
directors from each member school. The board meets the 1st
Monday of each month (except July) at NIHS. Everyone is
welcome to attend these meetings.

The ICYAA is a non-profit organization. Monies collected at the
gate to enter a game, or profits made through concessions are
evenly divided among the 6 conference members. Conference
schools may charge fees to play, but they are done on an
individual basis by each school.

The ICYAA maintains control over the rules, setup and
development of each sport, posting of all schedules, and all
issues involving the sporting events themselves. The ICYAA
does not determine how each conference school selects their
coaches, their individual boards, or how any monies are spent
once they have been allotted to each school. The ICYYA does
require each conference school to comply with league rules at all
times.

Currently, the ICYAA offers volleyball, cheerleading, and football
in the fall, basketball in the winter and track in the spring.

To be eligible to participate, the child must live in the school
district of a conference member or attend a conference member
school. There have always been questions about eligibility, so
contact us if you have any questions. The ICYAA allows children
from 3rd through 6th grade to participate. The only exception is
that we do provide track for 7th and 8th graders.

The ICYAA does not provide insurance coverage for any
participants, coaches, or directors.

Thank you again for your interest in the ICYAA.  With all
organizations, volunteers are always needed. Please contact us
if you are interested.
