ICYAA TRACK AND FIELD RULES
                                                  (Amended April 3rd, 2006)

1. League Organization
A. The league shall compose of (6) member teams composed of one (1) conference.
B. Schedule will be published by Track Vice President: decided on by the Board of directors.

2. Eligibility
A. Iredell County Young Athletes Association is open to boys and girls in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th,
6th, 7th and 8th only. (Amended April 3,2006)
B. The boy or girl must not become fourteen (14) years of age on or before October 15th of
said school year,
C.   There shall be no limit to size, race, creed, color, or religion.  It is the sole responsibility of
the coach to fill his team.
D. Players may not play for any team other than the school they attend. Non-public school
players must play for the team in their public school area. (Amended April 3, 2006)
E. Overflow of a team member from one (1) school can be transferred to a school short on
players with the coordination between directors.
F. No player shall be cut EXCEPT for the following reasons;
1. Foul Language
2. Unexcused missed practices
3. Un-sportsmanlike conduct
4. Destructing inter squad relationship
G. Each head coach shall submit a roster by event and grade to the (Track Vice- President) at
least one (1) week prior to the first meet and weekly updates on meet dates.           

3. Game Rules
A. All meets shall be conducted under the National Federation Rules with the Following
Exceptions:
1 - Field Events: By grades: Boys and Girls
A: Shot Put: Six (6) pounds grades 3 - 4 - 5 / Eight (8) pounds grades 6 - 7 - 8 (Boys only)
B: Discus: All Participants girls discus
C. Order of Events: (by grade; boys and girls except relays)

1. All relay teams will be by school only to include boy and girl teams. Relay teams can he
comprised of any combination of participants in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th, 7th,and 8th.

2. Order of Events-Run
A.        100 Meter Dash
B.        1600 Meter Run
C.        400 Meter Relay
D.        400 Meter Run
E.        800 Meter Relay
F.        800 Meter Run
G.        200 Meter Dash
H.   1600 Meter Relay

3. Order of Events - Field
A.        Shot put
B.        Discus
C.        High Jump
D.   Long Jump
C. All participants are limited to four (4) events. One (1) must be a relay or field event.
D. Running events start at the completion of the field events.
E. All participants in final meet must have competed in at least one (1) meet prior to medal
meet to be eligible.

4.Administrative
A. Physicals and parent release forms used in football, basketball, volleyball cheerleading will
be honored. (amended April 3, 2006) All new athletes must have both forms completed and
turned in to Track Vice President by the first meet.
B. Due to a large number of boys and girls participating in track, participants not actively
involved in one (1) of the following will be in football stands on the home side of the field at all
times.
1. First Call: Move to designated warm up area
2. Second Call:  Proceed to line up coordinator for called event (Amended April 3rd, 2006)
3. Third Call:  Proceed to event area ONLY, after directions from the line up coordinator
(Amended April 3, 2006)
4. Event Completed:  Return to the stands

5. Practice Sessions:
A. No organized practice or play before date announced by Board of Directors
B. Three (3) practices per week in pre-season
C. Two (2) practices per week after season opener.
D. Pre-Season practices cannot be longer than two (2) hours.
E. After season opener, practices will be a maximum of one and one-half (1-1/2) hrs. duration.

6. Schedule
A.        The schedule will be announced by Board of Directors.
B.        NO Combined Team Score. Team Score for Boys Separately
Team Score for Girls Separately.
C.        Scoring by number of total schools in meet- (i.e. first place = 6 points Sixth place = 1         
            point)

7. Awards
A. An awards program will be at the completion of all events during the last Track meet of the
year.
B. Type meet will be determined by Board of Directors
1.  1st Place - Blue Ribbon/Gold Medal for the winner of each event by grade.
2. 2nd Place - Red ribbon/Silver Medal for winner of each event by grade.
3. 3rd Place - White ribbon/bronze Medal for winner of each event by grade.
4. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, place ribbons or medals for each member of placing relay teams.
5. Participation ribbon for all participants that does not receive a ribbon or Medal (amended
April 3,2006)
C. Last meet scores will determine the following list of trophies:
1. Girls Championship Trophy- Highest total Girls team score.
2nd Place Trophy - 2nd Highest total Girls Team Score.
3rd Place Trophy -  3rd Highest total Girls Team Score.
2. Boys championship Trophy- Highest Boys team score.
2nd Place Trophy - 2nd Highest total Boys Team Score
